Volume I
Awareness
The Field is perceived.
The Four Principles of Sovereign Consciousness
Founders’ Edition
There are moments in history when the prevailing explanations of the world begin to reveal their limits—not because they have become false, but because they are no longer sufficient.
Volume I: Awareness begins from a simple reversal:
Before consciousness becomes an object of explanation, it is already the field within which every explanation appears.
Chapter II · Context
Our explanations have become more precise, while our understanding of conscious experience remains unresolved.
Over the past century, our capacity to describe the world has expanded beyond anything previous generations could have imagined.
We have mapped the human genome, observed galaxies billions of light years away, and built machines capable of generating language, recognising patterns and solving increasingly complex problems.
Yet one question remains persistently unresolved.
Despite extraordinary advances in neuroscience, psychology and philosophy, no consensus exists as to how awareness arises, what consciousness fundamentally is, or why subjective experience exists at all.
This is not a criticism.
It is an acknowledgement of the frontier.
Perhaps the challenge is not simply that the answers remain incomplete.
Perhaps it is that we have inherited a way of asking the question that already presupposes too much.
Every investigation begins from assumptions.
Often they remain invisible precisely because they are so deeply embedded within the culture that produced them.
If we begin by assuming that awareness is something produced by matter, we naturally devote our efforts to explaining how matter gives rise to awareness.
But what if that assumption is itself part of the question?
Volume I: Awareness does not ask the reader to abandon science, reject reason or adopt a new belief.
It asks for something both simpler and more demanding.
To pause.
To examine the assumptions through which consciousness has come to be understood.
To begin, not with certainty, but with careful attention to the field in which every certainty appears.
That shift in orientation is the beginning of the inquiry.
Chapter III · The Inquiry
Some books seek to answer questions. Others seek to refine them.
The Four Principles of Sovereign Consciousness belongs to a different tradition.
Rather than presenting another theory of consciousness, it offers a framework for inquiry—a cartography through which awareness, meaning and lived experience may be explored with greater precision.
Its purpose is not to replace one explanatory system with another.
Its purpose is to examine the assumptions from which every explanatory system begins.
From that proposition unfolds a four-volume exploration of consciousness, coherence and emergence.
The work does not ask the reader to inherit conclusions.
It invites the reader to investigate experience directly.
Volume I
The Field is perceived.
Volume II
The Field falls out of alignment.
Volume III
The Field is navigated.
Volume IV
Novelty emerges.
Every meaningful journey has a beginning.
This one does not begin with answers.
It begins with attention.
Before we ask what consciousness is, we must first consider the field in which the question itself appears.
Chapter IV · The Edition
The first expression of the work has been created as a physical object of reflection, intended to be held, revisited and preserved.
Limited First Edition
The Four Principles of Sovereign Consciousness
The Founders’ Edition marks the beginning of the published Querying Qualia inquiry.
It has been conceived not as a mass-market release, but as a carefully made first edition for those who recognise themselves as early participants in the work.
Each copy belongs to a finite first printing of 250 numbered hardcover volumes.
I
A strictly limited Founders’ Edition.
II
Created as a lasting physical volume.
III
The inaugural expression of the published work.
IV
Available exclusively as a physical book.
In an age of continuous digital acceleration, the decision to publish this first volume only in physical form is deliberate.
The inquiry asks for a different quality of attention—slower, quieter and less fragmented than the conditions through which most contemporary information is consumed.
The book is therefore not simply a container for the work.
Its form is part of the invitation.
To open it is to enter a space set apart from interruption.
Chapter V · Invitation
Not every book is written for every reader.
Some books exist to inform. Others to persuade. Others to entertain.
This work asks something different.
It asks for attention. Not agreement. Not belief. Not allegiance.
Only the willingness to look carefully at the experience that is already present before every explanation, every theory and every conclusion.
The purpose of these pages is not to replace one worldview with another.
It is to cultivate a way of seeing that remains open, disciplined and capable of questioning even its own assumptions.
The value of the work therefore cannot be measured by how many answers it provides, but by the quality of the questions it enables.
Perhaps the inquiry has already begun.

Every published work has a first circle of readers.
The Founders’ Edition marks the moment at which the Querying Qualia inquiry moves from private development into shared form.
It is the first physical expression of a larger body of work and the opening volume of The Four Principles of Sovereign Consciousness.
Those who receive this edition are not being asked to endorse a doctrine or accept a finished system.
They are being invited to encounter the work at its beginning, while the inquiry remains open, living and in motion.

The Founders’ Edition is only one expression of a larger conversation.
The inquiry itself does not begin with ownership of a book. It begins with attention.
If this is not yet the moment to join the Founders’ Edition, there is no need to hurry.
Questions mature in their own time.
What matters is not the speed with which they are answered, but the care with which they are lived.
If you would like to follow the continuing development of Querying Qualia, you are welcome to receive occasional essays, reflections and announcements as future volumes emerge.
No schedule. No marketing cadence. Simply correspondence whenever there is something worth sharing.
